Management roles

Register and apply

To apply for any job with us, you must register on the Trustpower careers website. Fill out the online application form and attach an electronic copy of your CV. Please take time in answering the application questions, as we’ll assess these before reviewing your CV. Your answers will give us a good idea of your skills and potential roles. As soon as you register or apply for a role, we’ll send a confirmation email so you know we have received what we need. Please check the confirmation email to make sure you have completed the entire application process and not simply registered on the Trustpower careers website.

Screening

If your profile and application tick the boxes, we’ll be in touch and you can move to the next stage of the recruitment process. If your experience doesn’t meet our needs, you’ll receive an email declining your application. We aim to screen all applicants within a few days of the role closing, though at times this may take slightly longer. Please note the close date on the job advert so you know the approximate time you can expect our response.

Interviews

This stage is a great opportunity for you to get a clear understanding of the role and how we work. Typically your first interview will be conducted by the hiring manager and a Trustpower colleague. It is highly likely you’ll be asked to discuss your career highlights and aspirations; and to answer a series of competency based questions, that bring out your functional and technical skills. You’ll be asked to give examples of prior experience, including the situation, action taken, outcome and key learnings. In preparation for your interview, we recommend you print out and read the position description posted with the job advert. Review the competencies provided in the description and think about how you’ve demonstrated these.

You may be asked to multiple interviews, depending on the number of key stakeholders involved in the role you’re applying for.

External psychometric and skills based assessment

For hiring and developing senior level talent, we engage an external provider to conduct individual assessments. This is a half-day assessment, conducted face-to-face, that provides us with substantial insight into an individual’s leadership capability, cultural fit and capacity to deliver outstanding results.

Reference checking

If you reach this stage of the process, it’s likely you are one of the top candidates. To proceed further, we need to confirm your employment history, performance and work style. Our team will request your permission to contact at least two referees for a verbal reference. Referees should include a previous or current employer, ideally your direct manager.

Position offered

If you are the successful candidate, the Hiring Manager will verbally offer you the position over the phone. You do not have to accept straight away.

Your offer letter and employment agreement will be sent to you electronically via Docusign for you to review and sign.

Induction

You will begin your induction to Trustpower before actually starting via RedCarpet Onboarding. You will be emailed tasks to complete that will prepare you for your first day. Following this, your Manager will take you through your individualised induction and you will continue to receive tasks from RedCarpet. You will also attend a group induction presentation by the CEO.

Assessment Centre - psychometric testing

We conduct a range of assessments to assist in selecting and developing high performing staff. These assessments enable us to see how you would fit with Trustpower and the role you’ve applied for. Customer Experience and Telesales applicants are usually required to participate in an Assessment Centre. This includes a range of role-specific exercises to measure reactions, interaction, personality and behaviours; and suitability for the role and with Trustpower. Assessment Centres are run at our head office in Mount Maunganui and usually take a full day, including psychometric assessments and an interview. If you are applying from outside the Bay of Plenty, you may be asked to complete an assessment remotely.
