Under the Electricity (Low Fixed Charge Tariff Option for Domestic Consumers) Regulations 2004 power retailers must offer a low fixed charge pricing option to all properties that: 

  • are a primary place of residence (excludes holiday homes, shearers’ quarters, etc)
  • are not used for commercial activities
  • are not used for club or society activities. 

The Minister of Energy has granted Trustpower exemptions to this pricing rule. Accordingly, Trustpower is not required to offer a low fixed charge pricing option to the following customers.

Supply Area: South Canterbury

An exemption to the fixed charge rule applies to all properties on 3-phase supply and with greater than 15kVA supply.

Trustpower is not required to offer a low fixed charge pricing option to these customers. The exemption is under Regulation 31 and corresponds to an exemption granted to Alpine Energy Limited. The exemption is on-going.

Supply Area: Marlborough

An exemption to the fixed charge rule applies to properties in the remote areas of: Kaiuma Bay, Pelorus and Queen Charlotte Sounds, Curious Cove, Point Underwood and Arapawa Island, French Pass and D'Urville Island, Upper Waihopai Valley, Upper Wairau Valley, Cape Campbell, Southern East Coast and Upper Awatere Valley. 

Trustpower is not required to offer a low fixed charge pricing option to these customers. The exemption is under Regulation 31 and corresponds to an exemption granted to Marlborough Lines Limited. The exemption expires on 1 October 2024.
